Why GoNano

Advanced protection for the roof you already have

Your roof protects your home every day, but asphalt shingles naturally change as they are exposed to years of sunlight, heat, rain, wind, hail and changing temperatures. That does not necessarily mean every aging roof needs immediate replacement.

The technology

What is GoNano?

GoNano is an advanced roof protection technology developed to restore and reinforce aging asphalt shingles.

Unlike a traditional roof coating that creates a layer over the top of the shingles, GoNano's Structural Roof Rejuvenation technology is designed to penetrate and work within the asphalt shingle itself. GoNano explains that its system combines replenishment of oils lost during the aging process with nanotechnology reinforcement that bonds within the shingle structure.

The goal is to address some of the changes that occur as asphalt shingles age while helping homeowners get more usable life from roofing materials that are still structurally sound.

At Superior Roof Coatings, we believe advanced technology gives homeowners another option before automatically choosing premature roof replacement. That is why we are proud to be Powered by GoNano.

An important distinction

GoNano is not a traditional roof coating

Because our company is named Superior Roof Coatings, this distinction is important.

GoNano Structural Roof Rejuvenation is not simply a coating that sits on top of asphalt shingles. Traditional coatings create a surface layer. GoNano explains that its Structural Roof Rejuvenation technology penetrates the shingles and works within the asphalt material itself. There is no surface film intended to cover the existing shingle.

Instead, the treatment is designed to restore flexibility while reinforcing the structure of the shingle from within. That makes GoNano fundamentally different from many conventional products homeowners may associate with the term roof coating.

The aging process

Why do asphalt shingles age?

Asphalt shingles depend on oils within the material to remain flexible. Years of exposure to sunlight, heat, rain, wind and temperature changes gradually affect those materials.

As shingles age, homeowners may begin noticing granules collecting in gutters, fading, dryness, brittleness, cracking or curling.

Granule loss is particularly important because those mineral granules help protect the asphalt below from ultraviolet exposure. Once significant deterioration begins, continued environmental exposure can accelerate the aging process.

GoNano Structural Roof Rejuvenation is designed to address qualifying roofs during this aging period, before the roofing system has reached complete failure.

Benefits

What GoNano roof protection is designed to do

Every result below depends on the condition of the individual roof, and every test result is GoNano's own.

01

Helps reduce granule loss

The granules attached to asphalt shingles provide an important layer of protection. As a roof ages, those granules can begin loosening and collecting in gutters or around downspouts.

GoNano treatment is designed to help reinforce the shingle structure and improve granule retention. Helping shingles retain their protective surface can play an important role in extending their usable life.

02

Helps restore shingle flexibility

Dry and brittle shingles are common signs of an aging asphalt roof.

GoNano Structural Roof Rejuvenation is designed to replenish oils lost from aging shingles while adding nanotechnology reinforcement within the material. This helps improve flexibility and gives qualifying shingles additional protection against continued deterioration.

03

Protection against drying and cracking

Constant exposure to sunlight and heat can gradually dry asphalt shingles. As shingles become increasingly brittle, they can become more vulnerable to cracking and other forms of deterioration.

GoNano helps address this aging process by working within the existing shingle rather than simply covering the surface.

04

Stronger protection against hail

Southeast Tennessee homeowners understand that severe weather can place considerable stress on a roofing system.

GoNano reports that treated shingles have achieved UL 2218 Class 4 impact resistance, the highest classification under that impact resistance testing standard. While no roof can be guaranteed against every storm or hail event, strengthening qualifying shingles can provide additional resilience against environmental stresses.

05

Improved wind resistance

Wind can place significant stress on aging asphalt shingles, particularly as their strength and flexibility decrease.

GoNano reports independent testing of treated shingles under ASTM D3161 Class F, which evaluates wind resistance. This added reinforcement is another reason homeowners may consider treating a roof while it is still structurally sound rather than waiting until deterioration becomes severe.

06

Moisture protection

Water is one of the biggest challenges any roofing system faces.

GoNano technology is designed to improve the water resistant properties of treated shingles and create hydrophobic protection that helps reduce moisture infiltration. Keeping roofing materials protected from moisture is an important part of maintaining their performance over time.

GoNano reports UL 2218 Class 4 impact resistance and ASTM D3161 Class F wind resistance for treated shingles in independent testing.

These are GoNano's own reported test results for its technology, restated here as the manufacturer states them. They are not a performance guarantee from Superior Roof Coatings, and no roofing system can be guaranteed against every severe weather event.

Extend the life of your existing roof

Your aging roof may have more life left

Replacing a roof is a major home improvement investment. For homeowners with asphalt shingles that are aging but still structurally sound, GoNano offers another possibility: protect and reinforce the roofing materials that are already there.

Depending on the GoNano system, the condition of the roof and the treatment used, GoNano states that its technology can extend the usable life of qualifying asphalt shingle roofs significantly, with certain systems offering protection of up to 20 additional years.

The key is treating the roof at the appropriate time. GoNano is not intended to turn a failed roofing system into a new one. It is designed for qualifying asphalt shingles that still have structural life remaining.

Candidacy

Is your roof a good candidate for GoNano?

Not every roof should be treated. The best candidates are generally aging asphalt shingle roofs that remain structurally sound.

A roof showing signs such as granule loss, fading, brittleness or minor curling may still have an opportunity for rejuvenation. However, a roof with widespread active leaks, significant missing or broken shingles, deteriorated decking, structural sagging or extensive failure may require a different solution.

GoNano specifically recommends professional assessment to determine whether a roofing system qualifies for Structural Roof Rejuvenation. That is why our process begins with an evaluation.

May be a candidate

  • Aging asphalt shingles that remain structurally sound
  • Granule loss has begun
  • Fading or brittleness is visible
  • Minor curling at shingle edges

Likely needs a different solution

  • Widespread active leaks
  • Significant missing or broken shingles
  • Deteriorated decking or structural sagging
  • Extensive roof failure

A roof in the right-hand column needs a roofing contractor, not rejuvenation. Superior Roof Coatings does not perform roof replacement or repair.

We evaluate before we recommend

Our goal is not simply to treat every roof we see. We want to determine whether GoNano makes sense for your particular roofing system.

We look at the overall condition of the asphalt shingles, signs of aging, granular loss, dryness, cracking and other visible concerns before discussing the appropriate next step.

If your roof is a good candidate, we can explain which protection option may be appropriate. If the roof has already reached a condition where rejuvenation is no longer suitable, you should know that too.

Common questions
